Pit Stop

Napperville Central High School Automotive Students

Pit Stop

It seems like these days we hear a lot of complaints about young people lacking drive and desire to work hard. Today we observed a shining example of the exact opposite. Ten female automotive students from Naperville High School in suburban Chicago are seeking to set a speed record in a truck they built themselves with the guidance and encouragement of their instructors. These young women have worked tirelessly in pursuit of what they hope will become known as the fastest truck in America.

Pit Stop at Lisa's

On their way to Beeville, Texas for their 1st competition they made a “pit stop” in Austin, Texas to visit Lisa Weinberger's vintage car collection. Lisa is the leader of the Driven to Care program which provides scholarships and student experiences to students pursuing automotive careers. Being originally from the Chicago area with her time split between Naperville and Austin, hosting students from her hometown was extra special.

They extended their visit to the garage to be able to enjoy a little more time with Lisa and her impressive vintage car collection, enjoying a “Welcome to Texas” taco buffet, followed by watching a few videos about John Weinberger and his automotive passion, whose legacy is celebrated by Driven to Care. Each student shared how they became interested in the automotive program at Naperville North High School led by instructor Greg Ditch and shared their visions for their future careers. The group also discussed a variety of careers in the automotive industry and learned about scholarships and student experiences offered by Driven to Care and Tech Force. Tech Force administers Driven to Care programs and offers additional scholarships and student experiences.

The afternoon was capped off by the students getting acquainted with Lisa's 1973 Ferrari Dino. It was a perfect day for all and we wish the team great success in their upcoming maiden truck race and in achieving their education and career goals. Go girls!
