Autobahn Student Experience
I'm delighted to take a moment to reflect on the heartwarming success of the Driven to Care Autobahn Student Experience that took place on Thursday, August 24, 2023.

In a truly remarkable gathering, we had the privilege of hosting 33 enthusiastic students and 5 automotive instructors at Autobahn Country Club in Joliet, IL. Event attendees came from automotive programs ranging from the local Waubonsee Community College to Stanford University. This event fosters mentorship, offers the experience of thrilling laps around the track, and ends the day with a memorable dinner.
The event was hosted by Lisa Weinberger, founder of Driven to Care. Lisa shared the inspiring story of her late husband's deep-rooted connection to the automobile industry. From starting as a skilled mechanic to becoming the founder of a prominent dealership group, John blazed trails and lifted the spirits of everyone around him. He was a dedicated racer, rallier, and collector of vintage cars. As a former educator and an accomplished professional in the automotive industry, Lisa finds immense joy in guiding students through the diverse opportunities within the automotive industry. She connects aspiring young minds with seasoned industry experts and supports students who are committed to transforming their passions into lifelong careers.
The cornerstone of this event was undoubtedly the mentors who generously shared their wisdom and knowledge:
David Phillips, a McPherson graduate, shared his expertise in restoring and preserving collector cars. David was a Driven to Care scholar and pays it forward by mentoring students interested in McPherson College and the collector car market.
Alberto Aranda, is the first recipient of the Driven to Care Scholarship in Engineering. His journey reflects the fusion of engineering and automotive zeal. Next year, he will graduate from Northern Illinois University's engineering program with a specialization in mechatronics engineering.
Hugh Ruthven, is a vintage car racer and founder of The Finish Line which buys/sells Automobilia. Hugh engaged the audience with life lessons centered around integrity, the value of learning from mistakes, and the importance of seeking guidance from experts.
Joel Weinberger, a vintage racer, and owner of Continental AutoSports/Ferrari, shared valuable insights about the extensive opportunities within a car dealership. Joel is a 2nd generation racer in the Weinberger family.
Kellan Weinberger, a third-generation vintage racer and the Marketing Director at Continental AutoSports/Ferrari, provided a glimpse into the world of dealership marketing and the art of crafting unforgettable experiences for Ferrari aficionados.
Gabriele Vignorili, a race car driver, vintage car rallier, and accomplished mechanical engineer, recounted his journey to founding Team Stradale. He emphasized the significance of developing unique skills and finding pride in one's work.
John Nicolo, the manager of Team Stradale, talked about Radical Sports cars and Wolf Racing cars, drawing parallels to Formula cars. He talked about the importance of meticulous organization and unwavering commitment to safety. His insights resonated deeply and underlined the importance of seeking knowledge from experts.
Craig Cunningham, COO/General Manager of the Autobahn Country Club shared his remarkable journey of transforming his passion for automobiles and motorcycles into a rewarding career. Craig treated attendees to exhilarating laps around the track, followed by a delightful dinner.
A special thank you to Amy Montalbano, Autobahns Event Manager, for orchestrating the day's agenda and capturing the magical day on video and in photos.
