DRIVEN TO CARE
MEMORIAL

Welcome to the DTC Memorial. Austin has become a big city and the owners of this property have a strong desire to promote a sense of community by using this privately-owned space for exclusive community events and gatherings.

The DTC Memorial honors the legacy of John F. Weinberger who had a large impact in the automotive and racing world.  His wife Lisa continues his legacy by providing scholarships and student experiences to students pursing careers in the automotive industry through their private foundations Driven to Care program. This Memorial is dedicated to raising awareness about those programs.

DTC Memorial

DTC Memorial was organically created.  The property was initially purchased to ensure that the beautiful heritage trees would remain and not be torn down by a developer. The house, garage and shed that was on the property had to be demolished due to its condition so the purchaser decided to do as much xeriscaping as possible and enjoy the property for outdoor private gatherings.  An Austin neighbor suggested creating a walking path that resembled our local Circuit of the Americas (COTA) racetrack as the family included 3 generations of racers and the funeral of the patriarch was hosted at COTA for his final victory lap.  The track was laid out using artificial turf.  Drivable pavers and decomposed granite were also used so the entire property is pervious.

Then a family-owned 1929 Bugatti bronze sculpture needed a new home and there was no other place to put it so it was shipped to the property.  The property looked “naked” as all that was on it was the sculpture so an idea was born to fill in the property.

See below to learn about all the artifacts that adorn this very special place.

Hot Rod Swing

John “cut his teeth” on a ‘32 Ford Hot Rod…an early start to fueling his passion for cars. Met Steve Wertheimer,  owner of the Continental Club, C’Boys & the Founder of the Lonestar Round-Up, one of the best in the country. Steve extended his hospitality which helped convince John to have a home in Austin.

Circular Seating & Tree Stumps

Dedicated to the Flores family who lived at 2214 S. 2nd. Original ‘04’s!
John always loved circular seating because it formed a sense of community. He also loved benches because he couldn’t walk but a few steps at any racetrack before friends stopped to get their "dose of John", so Driven to Care has also sponsored benches dedicated to his memory placed throughout Road America.

Bleachers

A norm at every track to have relatively uncomfortable seating and perfect for every straightaway. On the side of each bleacher are tire tables, that can be used as low top tables or for children seating.

COTA Tower

A wood prototype was fabricated by "Speed Mayor", Les Kiser which lead to a metal tower fabricated by Ferro. The tower is located near turn 16-18.
