Driven to Care, in collaboration with TechForce Foundation & Road America, hosted a student experience where 12 students attended the WeatherTech® International Challenge with Brian Redman at Road America which took place July 14-17, 2022. It is one of the largest vintage racing events in the United States, and it featured over 400 cars competing in several groups.

The purpose of the “student experience” is to expose automotive students to various careers that exist within the industry. Students had a full day of exciting meet and greets with inspirational speakers, racers and members of the foundation to talk about how we support students through scholarships, experiences and networking. Speakers and pit talks included discussions about vintage/race car prep, maintenance, team management, track operations, dealerships, stories from a former F1 driver & broadcaster, and an automotive writer. Students were able to watch the various races and Road America also arranged for an informative lap around the outside of the track. The students were enlightened by the unique history behind the track itself - which was then followed by a visit to race control and the media center.

We wish to express our sincere appreciation to our speakers/mentors: Gene Berghoff, Jaguar Connection; Joel Weinberger, Continental Ferrari; Michael Kertscher, CEO of Road America; Amanda Beyer, Manda Marie Upholstery; Deyna Gatica, Van Horn Automotive Group, Blake Arnold, AT&T Connected Vehicle Innovative Lead; David Ellis, TechForce Board Member and Lisa Weinberger, founder of the Driven to Care program.

The day also included "pit talks" from David Hobbs, a former racing driver, commentator, and car dealership owner; Burt Levy, an award winning motorsports journalist; and Barry Sale, from PHP Race Engines.

These speakers graciously gave their time to speak with the students and answer any questions that they had. By giving the students this unforgettable experience, the guest speakers were able to not only enrich their minds with history but also inspire them to continue pursuing their automotive dreams/careers.
